4.0 Branch Reports

4.1 Amicus - MSF

DR mentioned that he will be attending the Amicus - MSF annual conference later this month. It is likely that the event will be overshadowed by the General Secretary election in the AEEU section.

4.2 PCS

IP mentioned the attempt by Barry Reamsbottom (retiring General Secretary) and the Right Wing faction, the Moderate Group, on the Union’s National Executive to have the election of his successor, Mark Serwotka, set aside on legal grounds. Serwotka and the PCS’ National President have instigated proceedings in the High Court to have this decision reversed.

5.0 GATS

CK is organising a conference on the issue GATS, to be held in the House of Lords later this year. Chris has already received expressions of support from groups such as PSI, WDM, Save the Children Fund and the WI. He is looking for a high profile trades unionist to address the conference and backing from unions locally and nationally.

6.1 The meeting closed at 8.40pm

6.2 Next meeting:Wednesday 3rd July 2002 [DR gave his apology for absence in advance].
